Holistic psychiatric providers generally view the patients as a whole person, not just a clinical condition. This type of medicine focuses on evaluating the entire person to address the underlying cause of the illness. In comparison, Western Medicine generally identifies symptoms and prescribes medications that treat those symptoms. Holistic Psychiatry often encompasses an evaluation into diet, exercise, spirituality, habits/routines, and physical and mental symptoms prior to prescribing medication. At Endurance Mental Health, we use a combined approach of both conventional (western medicine) and complementary (holistic) therapies. Personalized treatment plans are developed specific to each individual which aims to promote self-care and self-awareness.
At Endurance Mental Health, our comprehensive initial evaluation will seek to understand what behaviors, lifestyle factors, and coping skills are influencing the way you are feeling and behaving. Once we identify the causative factors, we can then, as partners in health, come up with feasible solutions towards healing.
Who Can Benefit from Holistic Psychiatry?
Our patients often come to us already on psychiatric medications. In most cases, medications are continued until the lifestyle changes are fully implemented. Once that occurs, our patients are often able to decrease or even stop taking their medications in mild to moderate mental health disease. The decision to de-prescribe medications is always made as a treatment team and never done if safety is an issue. Endurance Mental Health encourages a Holistic approach to healing for the following disorders:
People who have not tolerated other traditional psychiatric treatments
People who are motivated to make changes and want to take control of their mental health
People with anxiety, obsessive thoughts, poor coping skills, obesity, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, mild to moderate depression, perinatal mental health disorders, perimenopausal and post-menopausal mental health disorders, phobias, addiction, and more.
Who cannot benefit from Holistic Psychiatry Alone?
At Endurance Mental Health, we are extensively trained in psychopharmacology and are able to provide medication management to those who need it. If you have one of the following conditions, a higher level of psychiatric care is needed and the evidence does not support stopping medications, even when a holistic approach is incorporated:
Suicidality
Bipolar Disorder
Psychotic Disorder
Severe Depression
Severe Eating Disorders
